Idener R&D

IDENER is an innovative company at the forefront of AI application in science and engineering, blending machine learning, systems modelling, and optimization to tackle complex challenges and drive human development. Founded in 2010, IDENER continues to expand AI's boundaries, striving for sustainable technological and business model breakthroughs. As the TERASUN project coordinator, they oversee administrative and technical management. Their key tasks include leading WP5 to synthesize information for decision support tools for policymakers and industry players and directing WP6 focused on dissemination, communication, exploitation activities, and life cycle assessments.

Fraunhofer ISE

The Fraunhofer Institute for Solar Energy Systems (ISE), Europe's largest solar research institute, with around 1400 staff members, is dedicated to developing renewable energy systems. Their work spans energy production, distribution, storage, and use. They lead in innovation and industry projects, contributing significantly to the energy transition. In TERASUN, they head WP4, focusing on advanced photovoltaic cell and module technologies, synthesizing the results from WP2 and WP3, aiming to improve efficiency and reduce costs.

PV2+ GmbH

PV2+, a Fraunhofer ISE spin-off, has patented a process for using copper instead of silver in solar cells, leveraging copper's greater abundance, lower cost, and sustainability. Copper's benefits include reduced shading and higher conductivity, which enhance solar cell performance. Integrating this with TERASUN's technology, the project aims to replace silver entirely, vital for a competitive, secure European solar cell production.

CEA Liten

CEA-Liten, part of the CEA and a pivotal player in energy and environmental R&D, began in 2004. It focuses on energy efficiency and the circular economy, contributing to the energy transition through solar power, batteries, hydrogen, and eco-friendly chemicals and fuels. In the TERASUN project, the institute offers access to advanced labs, clean rooms, a pilot line for SHJ, and cell characterization facilities and develop new indium-free transparent conductive oxides for silicon heterojunction technology.

Delft University of Technology

The Photovoltaic Materials and Devices group at Delft University of Technology advances the photovoltaic field, from atom-scale interface studies to large-scale PV system modeling. They have clean rooms and labs for X-Integrated PV systems aimed at society's sustainable electrification. Their recent work includes enhancing silicon solar cell efficiency through innovative opto-electrical methods and back-contacted cell designs, skills that align with the TERASUN project's objectives.

RINA Consulting

RINA-CSM, aids clients in achieving innovation and sustainability goals by utilizing its resources, which include laboratories, pilot lines, and expertise that propel product development and industrial process transformation. In TERASUN, RINA-CSEM will develop a large-area slot-die coating process specifically tailored for indium-free transparent conductive oxides to reduce reliance on this scarce material.
